Gauze 2

Here's some more pages from Gauze.
This is from issue 2. These pages were also scrapped in lieu of different artists on each issue. Drugs, neglected children and domestic violence...This issue has it all.

Gauze 3

Here are the completed pages I did for Gauze issue 3. They have since gone with another artist to do the pages and said he would be working off my layouts. Dunno how true that is or not. Anyway they're just sitting around on my hard drive and while I don't particularly care for them I'm a gluten for punishment and filling blog space so there you go.

Oh, and for anyone wondering, yes the middle pages are supposed to be there and the style is based off of Don Bluth's Space Ace.

Sketch because I still need a lot of work on my downshot figures and dynamics. This could be a bit better. More motion...more twistyness...There's always next time...

Summer Sample Pages

Here's the 5 page sample set I did for the Top Cow script on their submissions website. I did page 5 a bit later since it originally only called for 4 pages.

Comic Monsters Behind-the-Scene with 'GAUZE'

Comicmonsters.com just put up an little 'making of' feature with myself and Gerrin Tramis (the writer/creator) for Gauze issue 1.

In it I explain some of my process behind creating the covers/pages.

Check it out here.

Various sketches

Some sketches I've done recently. Various characters from various genres. We've got video games, comic books and music all in one post. Now that's productive.

Sunday, October 5, 2008

Some commissions I did not too terribly long ago. The idea was to have their characters from the City of Heroes game illustrated in a 50's style pin up girl poses. I think I made it halfway there, but so long as the client(s) is(are) happy that's all that really matters.

Something different

So I tried out a little something different with some sketches...inking.
Some stuff drawing wise seems wonky...mostly in her mid region.

I'm not that crazy about it, personally. I'm told it takes a lot of practice to actually get a different style down and all that but right now, I gotta say...not a fan.

In Living Color

This here is the Angelus pin up I did for funnzies a way back that will be appearing an the upcoming issue of the Darkness (4 to be exact) colored quite amazingly by Michael Birkhofer .
Thusly I am whoring the hell out of it.

Probably one of my favorite characters ever. Sandman/Death got me back into comics many moons ago when I was in high school.
Her jawline looks too big to me now, but what can ya do. Trying to work on my speed with these things so I can do 4 an hour.

Pre-Gray Sketchy

So here's one I was practicing on between roughing some sample pages out and I wanted to get a shot of it before I destroyed it with markers/inks.

Trying to expand the figures a bit and get some busty action going on. (pun gloriously intended)

P.S. This is Abby from the Top Cow book, Necromancer. (which you all should have read so it could have kept going)

Gray sketches

Here's a few gray marker sketches I attempted. Just warming up for the SDCC.

Art Journal is Arty

Quick little set of doodles of a character from the Markosia comic "Hope Falls".
This is Helen, our main protagonist.

I just got done reading this mini series a couple times over after I picked it up in NYCC.
It's really well done.
The art is either hit or miss and it might have been nicer to see something a little less stylized, but it still works.

San Diego Bound!

I think I know how I'll spend my May tax return....

Just confirmed my badge for SDCC this year.
Working on hotel arrangements now.

Possibly returning to the City of Heroes Fanzine for May.

Hush hush project is in it's coloring stages now, should be good to go soon.
I'll keep everyone up to date.

NYCC post game.

Got back from NYCC kinda late last night.

Great trip!

Hung out with David Nakayama, who was cool enough to let me crash on his floor.

Big thanks to Beth Sotelo, Emily Warren, and Christina Strain for putting up with me. Very very cool ladies...except for Christina...she's okay. ;)

Couple things came up so I'll have some more info on these potential projects later.
One very big one to announce in the near future.

Did a couple sketches on the Arcana exclusive blank cover of Gauze, so those are floating around out there. If anyone gets a hold of one or a scan, I will love you forever...(well, a week.)

Had a blast at the Evil Ink/Image party.
Booze, cupcakes, Clive Barker artwork and Claudio Sanchez covering NIN.

No pictures, sadly. (Don't hit me Marcy) I couldn't get a camera to bring, but a few of the other people with me had them so I'll link them when they come up.

Art Stuff update

I know, an actual update with artwork, stop the presses.

I was kinda bored and had been meaning to give this character a try.
Mostly for my own amusement but also to see if I could do it without the cool computer stuff used in the comics.

This is The Angelus/Celestine from Top Cow's First Born and the one-shot issue.
The design is by Stjepan Sejic who needs KICKED for making her so complicated. :P
